Direct Seeding
Direct seeding has potential for increasing the profitability of small grain enterprises, as well as affording considerable soil and water conservation benefits. Southwest Idaho has lagged behind other parts of the state and region in the adoption of direct seeding practices. There is very limited information on grower experience with direct seeding in the traditional wheat - summer fallow system used in our dryland areas, and little if any research information developed locally. Fortunately, there is a wealth of experience in similar production systems available and considerable research to draw on. Much of this information is available from the internet, as well as more traditional Extension publications. This page will hopefully direct your attention to a number of information sources that you can use to satisfy your curiosity about direct seeding and what advantages or challenges it may hold for you.
