Belford
WSU 1943 release. Six row hooded, mid tall, weak strawed, mid-season, maturity,
recommended only for hay in high rainfall or irrigated conditions
Haybet
Montana State University 1988 release. Two-row hooded. consderably more
productive then Horsford.
Horsford
Developed 1879-80 in Vermont. Six-row hooded, standard height, weak straw strength,
less productive than more recent releases. Very susceptible to covered loose smut
and ergot. Stress tolerant.
Sara
OSU 6 row spring forage barley. Awnletted or hooded (very short
awns). The only awnletted forage barley with stripe rust resistance. Yield is
lower than for feed barley.
Washford
WSU 1997 release. Six-row hooded, standard height, good straw strength, mid season
maturity, more productive than Belford. Widely adapted to PNW. Susceptible to
loose smut.
Westford
Western Plant Breeders 1988 release. PVP. Six-row hooded, standard
height, stiff straw, Late maturity, medium test weight, good yield potential under
intermediate to high rainfall. Moderately tolerant to leaf rust, powdeery mildew,
barley yellow dwarf, and leaf blight. Susceptible to stem rust.
