Gary (ID550)
Idaho 2001 release from Ed Souza at Aberdeen. A semi-dwarf adapted for rain-fed
production. Good dual purpose quality, bread baking and noodles. Lower ash
content than other varieties available. High yielding in regional dryland trials,
but limited testing in the Treasure Valley. Highly resistant to dwarf bunt, moderate
adult plant resistance to stripe rust, moderately resistant to leaf rust and moderately
tolerant of snow mold.
Golden Spike
A 2002 release, the first HWWW release from Utah State. Best adapted to dryland
plantings. Moderately tall. Excellent baking and noodle quality, a true dual
purpose hard white wheat. Low phenol oxidase activity for bright noodles.
Available outside Utah only at licensed dealers. Licensed to General Mills. Superior
snow mold tolerance, resistant to dwarf smut, race specific resistance to stripe
rust.
Ivory (OR850513)
OSU Kronstad 98 release. Weaker straw than Stephens. Sister lines evaluated
during the 99 and 2000 seasons.
MDM (WA7936)
A WSU release in 2005 for low to intermediate rainfall regions. It yielded higher than
Golden Spike and Gary in WA dryland testing. Milling yield and bread
making quality are poorer than Finley, a quality hard red winter.
It is similar in appearance to Eltan from which it was derived. MDM
is exhibits resistance to snowmold, and stripe rust.
MDM has not been tested in
western Idaho dryland regions.
Palamino (W96-359W)
An Agripro release in 200 for irrigated and high rainfall conditions.
Palladin is short and early compared to moreland. it has not been tested
extensively in western Idaho but has been in the south central and eatern Idaho
areas.
